New Year plans

by

A new year and the new awarding bodies for the VN diploma seem to be settling in well. Most RCVS enrolments have been processed and students have started logging evidence on their nursing progress log (NPL).

The new quickstart on the current NPL has been well received – a few less clicks for you busy clinical coaches.

To plan for the year ahead, current RCVS students should take a look at the dates below for exam entries, windows and results. Please bear in mind exam entries still go through your course provider, so allow them time to process the application and get it to the RCVS for the entry closing date below. To be sure allow two weeks – it’s a lot of work!

It might be worth printing this out and having it in a diary or on a noticeboard. Especially for the OSCEs… it’s a whole practice job to get students confident in all OSCE areas.

But life isn’t all student VNs and exams…

If you’re an RVN, what have you planned this year? CPD, voluntary work, job change, promotion, career change? Hopefully staying within the industry is your plan, even if not in practice.

The choice for veterinary nurses is growing by the day and we are seeing a rise in corporate practices using VNs for regional manager roles, utilising our practice knowledge and excellent customer skills.

The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) is running a survey on what CPD people want to see (what excites you/bores you and is there any CPD you would like to see that isn’t out there?) Contact BVNA, or let me know.

I would like some support for clinical coaches with how to write assignments so they can support their students. I’d also like to see some CPD on ethics and law – newer areas to the syllabus and relevant to us all.

As this blog continues, please contact me with ideas you would like me to look into…
